SOUTH MANATEE -- Patrons of the Disabled American Veterans club came to the rescue when a knife-wielding robber tried to steal a bag of money from the South Manatee establishment Sunday afternoon.

An elderly man shot by a robber in a home invasion Monday night is making an amazing recovery. Robert Lorins was shot in the torso Monday night, and doctors say the bullet just missed the main artery to his heart.
